Is It Ai （愛）? Koi （恋）? Rabu Rabu ラブラブ? Japanese Love, In The Eyes Of A Ganjin

It is, certainly, not a very C:SI ans Sanada-related topic at first glance. But I love to study and understand words and their nuances. For now I take on a word that is very universal, it invades even the most unlikely realms. Yes, even the C:SI samurai world.

[Besides, Christmas is just around the corner. And Sanada could use a lot of love lately. )

The word is LOVE.

I am not Japanese, so it has always intrigued me how love is exactly expressed among the Japanese. Time and again I would be told that the Japanese are generally not expressive, preferring their actions to do the talking for them.

Then again, I would find out that there are also words in Japanese to express various shades of love, much like in any language. For instance, there is AI （愛）, which is said to be a profound love. There is KOI （恋）, also meant to say love but it is more like a wanting. Then there is RABU RABU ラブラブ, said to be a term for extreme love among the young.

So, when you want to say that you love your katana, what Japanese love term do you use? Would it mean differently when you say that you are IN love with your katana?
