Babe, Wanna Play With My Blade?

Fancy staging a combat in this beautiful piece of summer paradise?

I want my mango shake...and my bikini...and my katana...

It can be done, of course, in Second Life. And, yes, in a beautiful beach sim such as one that Sanada can provide. No wonder some fertile minds came up up with this one-of-a-kind tourney to celebrate summer.

Sanada Clan, in cooperation with Hoodoo Surf, brings to you Babes With Blades, a tournament open to all the women C:SI samurais. All you ladies have to do is come over in your sexiest beach outfit, spar, and have fun amidst the backdrop of the beach and the sun. Male fighters need not fret: just bring out your female avatars and you are just as good to join. :)

(Furries? Hm. Did I hear someone say “Brazilian wax”?)

Rules are as follows:

1. Low ARC, low prim clothing and hair
2. Best of 3 spars.
3. All CSI weapons allowed except the nagi.
4. No AO, no special HUDS
5. No potions and kunai
6. No Nudity please (boardshorts and bikinis allowed, no private parts exposed)

This sizzling tournament takes place on July 10, 2010, Saturday, 6am SL time, at the Sanada Go, Sanada Jouka and Sanada Toba SIMS.

Prizes? Not bad at all. Winner brings home 3000L, while the first and second runners-up receive 2000L and 1000L respectively. All of them get a gift pack from Hoodoo Surf.

However, I think the best incentive of all is seeing the lovely Sanada people in their summer wear. Knowing how creative you guys are, I certainly cannot wait for July 10.  Yay! Yay!

Interested? Get in touch with Ocean Neuman, Gabrielle Islay, or Ai Ugimachi. You might want to survey the tourney area as well. Click on the links below.

Raring to join the tourney? Don’t even think about it. Just GO, babes. See you at the beach. ;)

Summer lover here,

CSI: BUSHIDO OR BULLSHIT-DO?

This post only reflects my opinion of the Bushido code and its practice and has nothing to do with the  personal opinions of the other members of  Sanada Clan.

Today, if you do a search on Bushido through google or other search engines, you will find an array of results with varied meanings. But what does it really stand for in its time?

Bushido actually comes from a combination of words. “Bushi” which means “Warrior” and “Do” which means way (Gaskin & Hawkins 1994). To simplify it, you can say it means “the way of the warrior”. Another way to interpret Bushido is that it is a way of preserving peace through the use of force (Binder 1999).

The emergence of the Bushido Code is primarily attributed to the emergence of the Samurai. “What Japan was she owed to the samurai. They were not only the flower of the nation but its root as well.”  (Nitobe 1908)

The 7 Virtues of the Samurai Code

The Bushido Code has seven main virtues whose roots stem from Confucius and Zen Buddhism.

Gi (rectitude) morality, integrity
Yū (courage) bravery, valor
Jin (Benevolence) kindness, compassion
Rei (respect) reverence
Makoto (honesty) sincerity
Meiyo (honor, glory) nobility
Chūgi (loyalty) faithfulness, devotion, trustworthiness

In its strictest sense Bushido can never be practiced in C:SI, for one we are all pretending wannabe samurais. It would take more than endless bowing for ready and good fight and bows respectfully to prove you are walking the way of the warrior. No one! No one walks the way of the warrior in second life.

It quite irks me that some overuse the Bushido code. Like say a fighter’s displeasure on a certain weapon… wouldn’t it be more honorable to spar a weapon with a few minor bugs rather than whine and complain about it because you lost and say it was not an honorable thing to use such a weapon?

Unless your internet connection is pretty bad, no matter what your statistics are, no matter how often the lag spikes are…. there is a way on winning a spar. It takes more than internet speed and sword balance– or so the wannabe samurais call it. It takes brains! It takes a really smart person to win a spar, aside from experience and sword and internet speed.

CSI is so into the Bushido code that for some, others have forgotten to have fun. This is a WAKE UP POST. You are not a samurai! You do not walk the way of the warrior! You cannot practice Bushido by simple bows, or by winning spar after spar, battle after battle!

It quite amuses me that some people would go so far as to “kiss the ground” I walk on just so they could be called a real samurai by practicing Bushido. Personally, if a new fighter follows the protocol– ready and good fight bows, no uncalled for slashes…. I am fine with that.

It is quite surprising and ironic that one of the predominantly Japanese clans, — (the country where Bushido originated) Sanada Clan, is all easygoing about how they deal with C:SI. I am so proud to be a member of it. Phoenix, the clan daimyo, has never let all these so called “power and authority”  get into his head.  I would tell other fighters and I truly believe in this, Phoenix does not walk the way of the warrior… he LIVES it! He is our clan leader but it does not stop there, most importantly, he is our FRIEND. And so are the other leaders– Ocean and Shimon, I have nothing bad to say against them, not because they are Sanada members, but because they are truly nice people.

In modern Japan, for some, the Bushido values are still alive the Japanese have the utmost respect for their country and family. It would be a scandal to shame and dishonor them.

This is how it is, and this is my wish for all clans. I personally see the whole Bushido thing as something that cannot be taught, it is YOU. The REAL YOU. It is your culture, it is your values.  So no matter how good you are, no matter how many times you bow, no matter how much you call your teacher sensei or master… question yourself? Would I still be like this with him in RL? Or is it just the whole Bullshit-do thing and because I want a rank up and be famous and be known all over C:SI?

This post stems from everything I have observed going on in C:SI, from a canned supposed tournament that questions on how women should be treated—argh! now I have to deal with the feminists too! and from all the bullshit that goes on.

Forgive the grammar lapses, English is not my first language. I rest my case. Let’s all get down and boogie! Woo! Hi5!

Okay I’m fine now! :D :P LET’S ALL HAVE FUN PIXEL PEEPS!!! :D

The Kaze Fever

The newest toy on the block

The Kaze no Komeiho (Wind Staff) V4.2, simply called Kaze, is the newest C:SI system weapon released by the prolific Musashi Blades. Apparently, its physical design and combat features have caught the fancy of many samurais. Sanada people are not exempt, and understandably so.

I myself was lured into buying one by Jiryn. I saw her wearing the weapon with Plimby yesterday, and soon after Ocean, Corey, Kohfu’s Sakura, and Tora’s Ardnaxela appeared all sporting their own Kaze’s. Don’t we all just love new toys?

Ocean and his Kaze

Shimon blocks with his Kaze.

While I have not tried to combat with a Kaze yet, I can probably expect it to be fast and fancy on some occasions, like the previous Musashi blades, with a few bugs expected of a new release. (You guys should see the special, hahaha.) Today I spotted Ocean-san and Shimon-san sparring using the Kaze and I wasted no time taking a few photos. Here are some of them.

Ocean executes a special.

Shimon executes a special during a spar.

Ocean and Shimon slug it out.

Two special men :) ))

So, want to join in the Kaze fever? A Kaze is worth 800L, but if you find it a little difficult to part with your hard-earned lindens, then you can watch the Kaze sparrers first and see if you find the weapon to your liking. Happy combat, y’all!

Ocean: a real kick-ass^^

All the best,
Marika (Yay! My first post!)

The First Ueda Battle

The first ever Ueda Battle was held last June 12, 2010 6 am SLT at the Ueda Province, home to Sanada Clan. The game’s objectives were to play a role playing game against one of the edo period clans of CSI and that was the Tora clan.  Originally a 10 vs. 10 game, 4 more players were added to make it a 12 vs. 12 one. Within the the premises near the castle are 8 cores that Tora needs to destroy. It was guarded of course by 12 of  Sanada’s Fighters.

Sexy Ruka san guarding one of the cores :D

Within the time limit of an hour, both clans did their best to reach their objectives. Nearing the end, 3 of the most relentless fighters of Tora remain standing locodutch Tokyoska, Charlie83 Yifu and Nariko Kimono with still 3 more cores to destroy. The brave Sanada warriors however were fighting as hard to protect these last 3 cores. In the end, 6 cores went down while 2 still remain while no more Tora warriors remain. Victory for Sanada Clan! :D

Congratulations to all fighters of both clans for being winners in your own right! Woo! Hi5! :D You all did an amazing job! For the Sanada fighters who were called at the last minute… thank you! You are truly part of the family! Here is my first shot at making a battle video at the crappiest conditions! arrrghhhh!!!! (10 fps, 350 ping sim! ) Enjoy!

Sanada Yukimura rules!!! Wooo!!!

Beautiful Teahouse and Tree

Japanese koto 琴 moments in Sanada

Thanks to Setsuka chan to give us nice music and awesome atmosphere to spar and relax at tea house :D

Sanada wooo

Chatting

One day lesada asked me how to pronounce my name. I tried to explain by text chat but it was not very helpful. So he suggested I use voice chat. Others joined us and soon many people were speaking in several languages! Haha! It was really nice to hear real voices from Japan and Spain and other places. Some of us speak only one language. Some speak several languages. But the one language we all know is the samurai sword! ^^

Using voice chat creates lag, so I apologize for disturbing any spars. It was an unusual situation and many of us enjoyed the time.

Thank you Phoenix san and all the members who work so hard to make us a strong clan. It is a great honor to be a member of Sanada. Good spars everyone!

Sleeping Samurai

We all know that sparring is fun. But waiting is not.

But there is always a wait between spars.

So what do you do when waiting for your turn?

^^ いたずら時間

What to do when you see two of your friends AFK? hehehe

1) Play kick the ball like tennis game. They are the ball.

2) Play gesture and insult them nicely. ;D

3) Push them around like a mannequin doll!  hahaha!

So one day Tamaki Chan and Corey San were AFK sleeping near the spar mat while waiting.

This is a dangerous thing to do. Then what happened?

A friend pushed them into a clever arrangement where their heads were touching like two swans in a fairytale.

They were still both asleep.

All of a sudden, they both woke up at the same time!

Both screamed WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

LOL

So funny!

Another situation was when Robby San was AFK standing in a very dangerous position!

His friend found him standing next to the tp sign in the training area in the sky.

If you remember, there is a hole right next to this sign.

Ooooh!

Yes, you guessed it. Robby San was pushed into this hole.

He did not even wake then.

So now he was on the platform beneath the floor.

This friend knows there is another hole below.

Yes! Robby San got pushed off this platform and then…down, down, down….

It is 1,000 meters fall. And he did not have a parachute on!

Robby San woke up on the ground level by the teahouse and wondered how did this happen?

He is planning a friendly revenge I think.

Oh oh.

^^ Moral of the story is be careful when AFK. Because then it is your friend’s time to play pranks on sleeping samurai!
